Bike ride

June 9th, 2010

Caden got a new (its used, but new to him) bike as he had completely out grown his old one.  The boys coaxed me into taking a 30 minute break from work and heading out for a ride around the neighborhood.  In that time and almost 5 miles we rode to Sunset golf course, Loomiller park (where a kid and his grandpa had just gotten a basket full of live fish they were taking to an injured pelican at a wildlife rehab place), Longmont High School (where batting practice was taking place), Alta park, Roosevelt park, Thompson park, Central Elementary and Lincoln park.  Here is a screen shot of our ride:

Wipe out

January 19th, 2009

January 21st was the 1st annual Winter Bike To Work Day.  The week had an incredible spring like forecast so I decided to ride on Monday too.  What a great day to ride.  Almost at work I thought my front tire might be flat but a quick glance down didn’t show anything major so I continued to ride.  I should have stopped because the next turn I made the front tire did not grip, I slid and donated plenty of blood and skin to the sidewalk.  No damage to the bike (other than front tube) so I took my forced break in the sun and fixed the tube and continued to work.  The biggest bummer (other than my flesh wounds) is my cycling gear is ripped.  I need to figure out if I can repair it.

Wednesday was another great day.  So bandaged up I headed to Boulder to stop at one of the Bike To Work day breakfast stations.  I guess I got there too late as the yummies were all gone…so I settled for my free coffee and smiled at the 60 degree weather.  Jan 21st is historically the coldest day of the year.

Cold, Dark and 2k

October 29th, 2008

I’ve reached the 2000 mile mark on my bike and still enjoying the ride.  The challenge right now is the morning cold.  Actually I’m amazed at how much heat I generate riding and how little insulation I actually need.  My coldest ride so far was 27 degrees…but it warms up during my ride.  My toes are the weak point and I’m trying to figure out how to keep them warmer.  This weekend the time changes and I’ll be riding home in the dark.  I’m anxious to see how all of my lights work.
