Sew good of a deal

January 22nd, 2009

I’ve had my eye out for a sewing machine for quite awhile.  I Know nothing about sewing but that was a major part of the allure of getting a machine…so I could learn.  Some co-workers were going out for lunch and I rode along so I could stop at the thrift store while they were getting their sandwiches.  I walked in and there it sat, a beautiful classic Kenmore sewing machine complete with all accessories, manuals and a sewing cabinet.  The price was definitely right at $65.  But that’s not all…it was 50% off any one item day so after tax I got a great machine for about $35!!

The next day when I went to pick it up there were many jealous thrifters who were goggling over the machine and telling me what a great deal I got on it.  Now, I just have to find a place for it and learn to sew.

Wipe out

January 19th, 2009

January 21st was the 1st annual Winter Bike To Work Day.  The week had an incredible spring like forecast so I decided to ride on Monday too.  What a great day to ride.  Almost at work I thought my front tire might be flat but a quick glance down didn’t show anything major so I continued to ride.  I should have stopped because the next turn I made the front tire did not grip, I slid and donated plenty of blood and skin to the sidewalk.  No damage to the bike (other than front tube) so I took my forced break in the sun and fixed the tube and continued to work.  The biggest bummer (other than my flesh wounds) is my cycling gear is ripped.  I need to figure out if I can repair it.

Wednesday was another great day.  So bandaged up I headed to Boulder to stop at one of the Bike To Work day breakfast stations.  I guess I got there too late as the yummies were all gone…so I settled for my free coffee and smiled at the 60 degree weather.  Jan 21st is historically the coldest day of the year.

Pirate Tic Tac Toe

January 7th, 2009

Caden and Dacen can really crack us up.  We have this fun pop-up pirate book that teaches the kids all about pirate stuff.  I asked Caden what the black flag with skull and cross bones on Captain Jolly Pants’ ship was called.  He said in his best pirate voice, “The Jolly Rancher”.

The boys got a little wooden tic tac toe game for Christmas and have been having fun playing the game but also figuring out other things to do with the tiny pieces that can inflict major damage on unsuspecting bare feet.  Whenever Dacen wants to play he brings it over and in his sweet voice says, “Papa, pease pay tip tap toe with me.”
